Match Report: Sheffield Star Green 'Un: 3rd April 1920:

SIILVERWOOD COLLIERY v LEEDS UNITED

By the kindness of the Rotherham Directors, Silverwood's Midland League engagement with Leeds United was played at Millmoor this afternoon, before a capital attendance. The ground , however, was in a treacherous condition. Silverwood kicked off and quickly opened with a vigorous attack and within two minutesTookey put in a beautiful centre, which Darby converted, leaving Rounds powerless to save. Leeds were only allowed to advance occasionally and in one raid Fawcett tested Moulding with a shot, which was easily saved. Buckley put in a fine centre, but the ball was cleared. Silverwood got away again, and Winslow got in a shot which Rounds cleverly saved. Leeds now pressed but their shooting was erratic. For a time end- to-end play prevailed, neither side being able to claim any advantage. Eventually, however,Silverwood got away on the left, and Darby tested Rounds with a fine low shot. This was followed by a nice individual by Tookey, which, however, came to nothing. Leeds advanced down the centre and Bedford gave Moulding a difficult shot to deal with. Leeds were on the aggressive for a brief period, but their shooting was againfaulty. Leeds played some sensational football during the last few moments of this half. From a scramble in goal Bedford scored, and no sooner had the ball left the centre when Bedford scored again and just before the whistle went the same player added another. When play was resumedthe ground was in very bad condition owing to the heavy downfall of rain. Scientific football was out of question altogether. Silverwood were given a freekick just outside the Leeds penalty area and a few minutes later Tookey had a clear opening, but again Rounds saved splendidly. At tis juncture Silverwood werepressing heavily, but Rounds was equal to all calls made upon him. Silverwood vainly tried to score early in the early stages of the seconf half, but Rounds, the old Barnsley goalkeeper, played a brilliant game. Leeds had the most of the play in the closing stages, and three minutes before the whistle blew Fawcett got a fourth goal for them.
